When I ate there recently with friends, I ordered a dinner which came with all you can eat salad bar. I filled up my salad plate and when I got back to my table, the dinner was served so I just picked on the salad a little and then decided to eat the dinner before it got cold. When finishing the dinner, I asked for a container so I could take home the remainder of the salad I didn't eat and I was told I was not allowed to take salad home that I didn't finish, it was against the rules! I was angry. Paid a lot for that dinner and wasn't going to throw away the salad I barely touched. I asked for a container anyway as I still have small pieces of my dinner left on the plate and said to the waitress, yes...I'm asking for a container for those small pieces, I have that right. She brought it and as I sat and finished my beverage, I quickly put my left over salad in the container while she wasn't looking. Heck next time I will bring a container from home with me...this is outrageous because those dinners are not cheap and they expect you to leave good food you already paid for. There were a few other instances with waitresses and such there too but too long to mention here. It's not one of my favorite places and only go there cause it's close.

I also visited this diner as I drove to an appointment in Phillipsburg...I cannot comment on the food because I didn't stay!
After being seated I waited 27 minutes (yes I counted) for someone/anyone to offer me a menu/glass of water/take an order. I simply left...perhaps I missed out on a good meal but service counts and here it was not only poor it was non-existent.

Thanks for your comment, Michael! I wonder if we had the same waitress.

Two main things people want when they eat out are 1) food quality and 2) good service. Atmosphere is important, too; no one wants to eat in a dump. But good food and good service make it enjoyable.

I think our waitress at Key City was inexperienced, and lacking in motivation. Her mind seemed elsewhere. I mean, daydreaming out the window then wandering off when the customer wants more coffee does not make a good impression. Neither does giving excuses instead of making it right. Previously at Key City, and in most diners, service has been very good to excellent. But word gets around when it starts failing.

About a month ago we ate dinner at another diner. Instead of just apologizing for a couple problems and making things right, the waitress just made one excuse after another, just like your waitress. ("It's not my fault!") Who cares whose fault it is? Just make it right. Things will go wrong and customers understand that. But it's all in how they handle the situation. Attitude.

Thanks again! Hope to hear from you again.

I as well feel the food is very good but indeed it is tough to find good help. My family and I ate on the afternoon of July 5th. We ordered our food. I was the only one to order an appetizer. All of our food came out without the appetizer even showing up. Waitress said your pizza bagel will be right out. I said "that pizza bagel was supposed to come out first, wasn't it?" She replied "I didn't know you wanted it as an appetizer. I then replied "It's under appetizers on the menu!" Our drinks were never refilled, we had to ask for straws 5 minutes after our drinks came. I agree the food is very good but the service lacks big time!!!!
